A letter from a parent about Got My Kids Mississauga

It was so nice to recently receive an email from a Mississauga parent about her experience with Got My Kids!

Yvonne obviously enjoys our product!  Thank you Yvonne for taking the time to write us and let us know!

Dear Anne,

Just a note of thanks for sending me the Mississauga West 2008 issue of Got My Kids.

As I explained during our conversation, I have only ever received one issue of this wonderful tool of information, which I used relentlessly as my go to directory. I plan to contact Canada Post about getting on their circulation list as family household because this magazine is extremely useful to me.

I have a 4 year old son, who I like to keep active and entertained at all times. These are a few of the companies I have found and used because of Got My Kids:

Hearts Child Care: In early 2007, my sons school was closing their summer camp program because they were building a new school. My husband and I were left to find somewhere to place our son for the summer months. After reviewing the education section, we decided to interview with Hearts Child Care, who were very welcoming and had space for the summer. My son excelled so much during his stay in the summer, we decided to make Hearts is permanent school. The staff, children and parents are friendly and we felt we fit into this environment as a family unit. Thank you to Hearts for your love and support.

KeyNotes School of Music: My son loves music, so my husband and I thought it was time to introduce him to a music class, but something he would enjoy and have fun. In the recreation section, I noticed the ad for KeyNotes, so in the winter of 2007, we enrolled him in the Kindernotes program. I really enjoyed the interaction of parent and child. I thought the teacher was warm and friendly and allowed the kids to have fun and explore the different sounds and instruments in the music world.

Balls of Fun: Not far from where we live, there is a play centre for kids. I wanted to bring my son somewhere different. Again, in the recreation section I notice the ad for Balls of Fun and they had a website. I checked out their website with my son and he really wanted to go. We made a play date with friends and the kids had a blast! In January 2008, I organized a last minute birthday party for my son and asked him where we should go for fun and he said Balls of Fun, so that's where we had it.

Swirls: I love cupcakes and I was very happy to see there was a store that specializes in cupcakes in Streetsville. For my birthday last year, my husband and son got my cupcakes from Swirls and they were delicious!

Mississauga is a fast and large growing city. I was raised in Mississauga, when Square One was just a little square and everything was forest. As a mother with so many different options and companies to choose from, it's nice to see someone such as yourself narrowing the field for us and compiling all these great companies into one great tool. This spring season I'm studying the guide to find a soccer club and my sons next education school after Hearts SJK. However, I did notice the ad for Gingerbread Lane and I plan to take my son in a few weeks.

I am sure I speak for all parents who don't get the opportunity to say thank you for all your hard work and efforts for getting this guide out every season. It's much appreciated and used.

Warmest regard,
Yvonne

Mississauga Mother's Day Gift Ideas

As Mississauga kids get ready to honour their Moms this Mother’s Day we thought we’d try to offer up a few possible solutions to the age-old question of what to get Mom.

Time – Mom’s need more time. You can help by pitching in from time to time and doing some of the chores she usually handles. Take the garbage out with out her having to ask you 124 times. Surprise her by running the vacuum around even if it is not on your chore list. Offer to take the dog for a walk in the rain so she can in with a warm cup of tea.

Peace – When she goes into the bathroom consider that her personal time. This is not the time to ask her to sign your permission slip. This is not the time to tell her the dog vomited on the living room rug. If the phone rings and rings answer it for her and take a message. Consider making peace with your siblings. Yes it is a pain in the neck when your sister burns out your ipod battery and leaves it uncharged in the car you father took when you wanted to listen to it while you study. Whining for hours to your mother is not going to help the situation.

Knowledge – Believe it our not your mother really does want to know how your day went. She would like to know what your teacher thought of the science project that you handed in. (You remember, the one you told her at 7:30 in the evening through the bathroom door, was due tomorrow and that you needed and eye dropper, thermometer, and a bottle of iodine for.) She would like to know what the cute guy said to you at lunch. She wants to know if you are thinking about going out for the track team. She would like to hear you talk about just about anything! (Computer games and really stupid TV shows and movies excluded.)

Love – Yes she loves the homemade cards and gift certificates. Yes she would love it if you baked her some cookies. (Unless she is on a diet. Then a nice veggie plate would be thoughtful.) And YES, YES, YES… she wants a big hug when you leave in the morning and a kiss before bed even if you are a big kid now.

It's not the size of the gift but the thought that counts.  But just in case you decide you'd like to buy her something too check out our Mississauga Mother's Day Gift Guide.  (Note to family... I'm running low on shampoo and could use a massage!)

Thank you to all Mississauga Moms!  We hope you enjoy your special day!
